If you are a SSS member and is pregnant, you have the right to know how you can enjoy the SSS maternity benefits.

Anyone who qualifies for the maternity benefits should know this:
For miscarriages and normal delivery – The computation is based from the 100% of the average daily salary of the member multiplied by 60 days.
For CS delivery – 100% of the salary credit of the member multiplied by 78 days.

Benefit Computation
1. The semester of delivery or miscarriage is not included in the computation.

2. The computation starts 12 months backward prior to the semester of contingency.

3. Within the inclusive 12 months, you will identify the six months with the highest salary credits. As of January 1, 2014, the maximum covered compensation is Php 16,000.00.

4. Adding the six months you will determine the total monthly salary credit.

5. The total monthly salary credit will be divided by 180 days and the average daily salary credit will be the daily maternity allowance.

6. The daily maternity allowance is multiplied by 60 days for miscarriage or normal delivery and 78 days for caesarian section. That will be the total maternity benefit.

Important Reminders
1. A female member can claim for SSS maternity benefit only for the first four deliveries as mandated by the Social Security Act of 1997 or the RA 8282.

2. Employed members are entitled to receive the maternity benefit 30 days after filing the maternity leave application. It is the responsibility of the employer to give the amount in advance to the employee.

3. In case that an employee suffers a miscarriage, but the employer fails to remit on time the required contributions, then the employer will be sanctioned to pay the damages to the SSS. That would be equivalent to the maternity benefits due to the employee.

4. The SSS will pay directly the maternity benefits to those voluntary, separated and self-employed members.

5. No member can claim two benefits within the same periods.
The employee member should notify the employer as soon as the pregnancy is confirmed. For voluntary members, necessary documents should be filed immediately to the nearest SSS office. Likewise, you can also create an online SSS account so that you can monitor your monthly contributions or if your employer is diligent in paying the SSS contribution.

Paying your SSS monthly contributions can be a great help not only during your delivery but also for other emergencies.
